BIOGRAPHY
Kathryn Cameron is a New York-based artist whose work investigates the use of color and materials through time and different cultures. She is exploring its symbolic, psychological, and spiritual impact on our world. Cameron seeks to unearth the connections between nature and human beings through the spiritual meaning of shapes and form, in sacred geometry, and by using natural materials, often recycled or repurposed, including paper, paperclay, fibers, wood, and leather.
Cameron is a member of the New York School of the Arts and Hub Center for the Arts in New York City, where she is a faculty member and exhibition curator. Cameron also teaches courses and workshops worldwide in paper pulp, paperclay, and sculpture. She is also a member of Alive! Art Creativity & Climate Change, a French-based organization exploring the potential of art and education to inspire the transition to a more sustainable society. Cameron holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Kutztown University in cinema and television production and has been trained in art at several institutions in New York since 1990. She studied sculpture, painting, and printmaking at The National Academy Museum and School in New York. She also studied sculpture and painting at the School of Visual Arts and the New York Academy of Arts, and paper making at Carriage House Paper in Brooklyn, New York. Her work is in private \collections in the United States, Europe, and New Zealand.
PROJECT
During her time in Fes, Kathryn plans to develop a series of works inspired by local sites, materials, and colors, researching the connections between spirit and matter to find the place where they both meet. She will also analyze the intimate relationships between the different ways of living, the relation with nature and the urban set, daily sound and light, and the consequent impact of these elements on the development of the artwork. Painting, sculpture, and photography will be the natural tools for this journey.
